

A board-certified orthodontist with over 15 years of experience, Dr. Merz believes orthodontic treatment is a complete process that considers the goals and concerns of each patient. She is dedicated to achieving excellence in the areas of dental function, oral health, and facial esthetics.
Dr. Merz earned her dental degree at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco in 1987, graduating with recognition for her exceptional work with children in the area of pedodontics. As one of three residents accepted annually, she went on to complete her orthodontic specialty training in orthodontics at the Medical College of Virginia, where she graduated in 1989.
Since graduation, Dr. Merz has been in private practice here in San Diego. Her area of expertise is bite correction and facial esthetics for children and adults. She has taught orthodontics at UCLA, the Medical College of Virginia and in China. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Dental Association and has served twice as President and Director of the San Diego Academy of Orthodontists. She is a member of the National Dental Honor Society, the San Diego County Dental Society, California Dental Association (CDA), American Dental Association (ADA), the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), and the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).
Dr. Merz has a special talent in fine art and architectural design, which is reflected in her new office. She enjoys rollerblading, golf, and occasionally the PAC. Dr. Merz’s niece and nephew are recent graduates of Torrey Pines High School.
